Hurricane Irene

The hurricane up here was pretty much just a bad storm. Lock down after 6:30pm, no leaving the halls or dining area, and always check in with the RAs. Basic stuff. We had a tornado warning around 10:30, but it didn't interrupt much.

Basically, I have spent the last two days throwing myself into all the activities here. Lectures about support services, surviving college, all that. My book discussion group was amusing. Very few people finished the book. Only a couple liked it. For the curious, it was Strength in What Remains. Don't ask for a summary, I've already deleted it from Kindle.

The Meet Arcadia thing was interesting, though I will say this. Getting into an impromptu contest to see who can scream the loudest or longest is fun. Especially if you win. The resulting coughing and being unable to breathe part is not. Breathing Is Happy.

Being from a good distance away, I have elected to live in the dorms, and asked for a single roommate. She has not yet arrived, we're assuming due to the storms. We hope she does soon. So I am the lone person over 21, besides my Resident Assistant, in my hall. I am also the lone non-freshman.

Lucky for me, the girls on my hall are a LOT friendlier than I am used to people their age being. Maybe I'm cynical from my time at my last two colleges, but these girls are mature, friendly, and have refused to form cliques. Everyone is welcome. *Everyone.* Kinda reminds me a little of high school, except they've been actively dragging me into hall activities. ;) It's nice.

Today we are still kind of in lock down, so I may take a day to relax, maybe join some calmer activities, and just have a decompression day. This may be my only weekend on campus until it snows, so I do plan on getting out at some point.

See you all later!
